What Is Laserable Leatherette?
Laserable leatherette is a PU-based (polyurethane), PVC-free synthetic made to look like leather and to engrave on a CO₂ laser. The laser removes the thin top colour layer and shows a contrasting colour underneath.
Unlike genuine leather, every sheet is the same thickness, colour and texture, so a setting that works on the first piece works on the hundredth.

Compatible Lasers
Epilog CO₂ laser
Engraves and cuts leatherette. Common in gift shops, makerspaces and award shops.
Kern CO₂ laser
For full sheets and high-volume runs.
Fiber laser
Not suitable for leatherette.
Only laser leatherette that's sold for lasers
The leatherette we sell is PU-based and PVC-free. Much of the "faux leather" or "vinyl leather" sold by fabric stores is PVC, which releases hydrogen chloride gas when lasered and damages the machine. If you can't confirm it's PU and PVC-free, don't laser it. Use fume extraction with all leatherette and leather.

Engraving Tips
Mask when cutting
Premask tape keeps smoke stains off the surface around cuts. For engraving only, a light wipe afterwards is often enough.
Start low
Leatherette needs much less power than acrylic. Too much power scorches the edges, so test on a scrap.
Extract and assist
Keep fume extraction and air assist on. Cut edges are cleanest at the lowest power that still cuts through.
