Premask Tape for Laser Cutting and Engraving
Paper masking tape that keeps smoke stains off your material, protects the back from flashback, and masks paint fills. Five widths, 100-yard rolls.
What premask does on a laser
Premask is a low-tack paper tape you lay over the material before cutting or engraving. Smoke and residue land on the tape instead of the surface, and you peel it off when the job is done.
It is most useful when cutting acrylic, wood and leatherette, and for paint-filled engraving. Apply it flat with no bubbles so the laser cuts through it evenly.
What Premask Is Used For
Stop smoke staining
Smoke and residue land on the tape, not the material. Peel it off and the surface around the cut is clean.
Protect the back
Masking the underside of acrylic and wood reduces flashback marks from the cutting table.
Paint-fill masks
Engrave through the tape, fill the engraving with paint, then peel. The tape keeps paint off the surface.
Leatherette and wood
Keeps scorch and smoke marks off light-coloured leatherette and pale woods when cutting.
Handling
Protects finished pieces from scratches between the laser and the customer.
When to skip it
For light raster engraving the tape can trap residue or leave strands in the engraving. A wipe afterwards is often enough.
